Nicholsons deliver a complete engineering service from design and rapid prototype manufacture to volume production of standard, optimised and fully bespoke metal seals, gaskets and complementary components.
1. Design
Our team of Engineers have significant experience in designing the optimum seal for a wide range of customer specifications.
We use a variety of methods during the design development process including:
- Non-Linear Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
- Stress, fatigue and buckling analysis
- Modelling of loads, pressure effects, modification of part geometry and cavity relaxation
- Qualification testing specific to customer requirements
- Physical testing and measurement including load vs deflection, pressure testing and fatigue testing
For more specific testing requirements, we work with third party consultants, Universities and test facilities.
Nicholsons Engineering and Sales teams work closely with our customers to ensure projects are managed in line with, and exceed, customer expectations. We recommend that you involve us as early as possible in your design process to ensure that the most appropriate sealing solution is specified in terms of performance, cost and lead time.
2. Production Engineering
Our Production Engineering Department is responsible for the development and improvement of the precision forming and rolling methods that we use to manufacture our products. Production Engineers play a key role in our new product introduction process identifying the most controlled and cost-effective method of manufacture for each new part.
We manufacture and maintain many of our rolling, pressing and forming tools in-house for both make to print parts and Nicholson’s designed product. In addition, many of the specialist work stations required during the manufacturing process are also designed, manufactured and assembled at Nicholsons.
3. Production
Nicholsons firmly believe that the building of solid, long-term relationships with a small number of approved key suppliers is an essential factor in guaranteeing stability to Nicholsons and to all of our customers offering improved quality, reduced lead times and costs benefits. Buffer stocks are held for core raw materials, bought-in components and scheduled finished goods to ensure we can support our customers with urgent requirements.
Nicholsons are Nadcap approved and hold specific customer accreditations for various special processes. Our in-house production capabilities include welding, rolling, forming, laser cutting, machining, heat treatment and chemical processing.
